Functional Movement Progression – Lee Burton PhD, ATC, CSCS

lee-burtonThe Functional Movement Corrective Exercise workshop is designed to enhance professionals’ perspective on improving fundamental movement patterns.  The Functional MOvement Screen (FMS) will be reviewed and corrective exercise progressions will be discussed based on movement dysfunction.  The functional exercise progressions will be demonstrated and focus will be placed on how to utilize the FMS to properly prescribe and implement corrective exercise strategies

Inflammation and Nutrition – Alfred Garbett, DC, DACRB

alfred-garbuttDr. Alf Garbutt will discuss the nature of inflammation, both acute and chronic, while defining key associated phrases including free radicals, oxidation and reduction.  He will enumerate the many causes of inflammation and the diseases and disorders associated with chronic inflammation.  Dr. Garbutt will cover the topics of how to reduce Fp-Pla2, proteolytic enzymes, ayurvedic medicine and Eastern Indian herbs and will conclude with scientific studies on Garcinia Mangostana and an overview of the Mediterranean diet.

maria-perriDr. Perri’s presentation is based on Dan Siegel’s current research on the brain and the effect of mindfulness practice (meditation, yoga, tai chi…) on brain function, physical health and particularly on enhancing pain management skills.  The group will be lead in some direct experience exercises.

Radiculopathy, Lower Extremity Neuropathies & Rehab – Jerrold Simon, DC, DACRB

jerrold-simonDr. Simon will discuss the clinical and causal features of radiculopathy as detailed in the text Myelopathy, Radiculopathy and Peripheral Entrapment Syndromes by Durrant & True.  Additionally, some of the differential diagnoses with a brief overview of some lower extremity peripheral neuropathies will be covered.  The relatively new protocol known as the StEP Procedure which helps to differentiate axial vs. radicular syndromes without the use of NCV/EMG studies will be discussed.
